The Smoking Ban in England
July 1st 2007 sees the introduction of a smoking ban in all public places in England. All indoor public places and enclosed spaces are affected and will be legally required to display the relevant no smoking signs.
Reasons For Banning Smoking in England
In England the smokefree law is being introduced to protect the public from the hazardous side effects of Passive Smoking.
Passive smoking (secondhand smoking) has been proved to cause serious illness in many of those affected. Every breath of secondhand smoke that is taken into the lungs, over 4,000 chemicals enter the body. At least 50 of those are known to cause cancer.
Most people are unaware they are breathing in passive smoke as over 80% is both odourless and invisible, this puts the majority of second hand smokers at even greater risk.

Smoking Ban
All indoor, or enclosed public spaces in England, including public transport and work vehicles will be affected by the smoking ban. In the workplace indoor smoking areas and staff smoking rooms are no longer allowed, smokers will still be allowed to smoke outside however.
All Pubs, Clubs, Bars, Restaurants and Indoor Sporting Venues will also have cigarettes banned.
Stopping Smoking
Around 80% of smokers say they want to quit, the new no smoking ban in England should help give some of those smokers an extra incentive to stop smoking.
There are lots of methods to help stop smoking: Nicotine Replacement Therapy, Hypnosis and the new drug Champix are all successful methods for quitting smoking.
